I'm a boxhead!

A couple of weeks ago, we had the pleasure of hanging out with some friends for our friend Emma's birthday party.  During the party, her husband Chris decided to invent a little game to amuse Evelyn and her friend Elsa.  Here's a quick video!  So awesome!  Love that guy!  (Also, I love the part where Elsa just randomly falls over. Gotta love toddler balance!)

Catching up...

The Powell house has been buzzing lately, as I'm sure your house as been. Here are some random photos of the past few weeks for a peek into what we've been up to...

Always picking out books to read...

Spent New Years with some of our good friends.  Brendon made Zopf: "Swiss braided bread for Sundays."  Zopf is something we learned to make a few years ago from Swiss friends.  It's the perfect bread for the morning, in my opinion!

Happy New Year breakfast!  Egg scramble and Zopf topped with honey-butter and Dutch chocolate sprinkles, which is the way we were taught to have it. SO GOOD.

The New Years crew!!

Brushing teeth with apron and Converse. Of course.

A new favorite in the Powell house!  New tent with tunnel!  Thanks grandparents!

Sporting my new sweater from Auntie Katy!

Grocery shopping is SO much more fun when you get to ride in the cart-car with a friend!

Music to my ears...

"I'm pleased to let you know that we would be happy to move forward with publishing your paper at Cell."

A sentence that many scientists dream to read.  A sentence that I received today in my email.
(I'm going to save it, in case I never get another one in my life.)

I could not be happier. A first-author paper in Cell. I am pinching myself.
Moreover, I am SO happy for the lab.  This work started 3.5 YEARS ago is finally going to see print in one of the best journals in the business!!

Some photos of Christmastime...

We have been busy, busy lately and I haven't had much of a chance to talk about our Christmas festivities.  We had our family Christmas here in Nashville a few nights before we flew to Montana.

Evelyn in front of our little tree at home... ready to open some gifts.

A little video:

On the day of the 21st, we flew to Montana to be with my family for the holidays. From there, we traveled all around the state visiting brothers, sisters, cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. It was a whirl-wind 6 days but we sure enjoyed ourselves.  Unfortunately, we were too busy visiting and thus we didn't take too many photos.  We flew home on the 27th via Denver, in what I have determined is the worst flight to-date with Evelyn. Poor girl was so upset that she hyperventilated and threw up. Thankfully other passengers were very kind, despite her wailing and carrying on. The flight from Denver to Nashville was much better.   Here are some photos of our trip!

Snow at home in Great Falls!

Opening gifts...

Mountains outside Bozeman... beautiful.

All in all, it was a wonderful trip!

Santa visits daycare...

Last month, Evelyn had her first encounter with Santa, as he visited our daycare one evening.
Ev was interested from afar, and of course, MUCH more interested in the food!

Mom explaining about Santa

Watching Santa carefully.

Thanks, Santa!

Not so thrilled to be in his lap.

Ev's lost interest and now wants "coooooookies!!!"

Everyone posing with Santa... Ev is in the bottom, middle. The poor girl next to her just cried and cried!

January in Nashville

I do complain about the weather here, so I thought I'd post something a little different this morning.

January 5th. High of 54 degrees.  Tomorrow? High of 61.
Sure, the lows are below freezing, but I have to say I am really enjoying the cold, yet sunshine-y morning this morning and love knowing it's going to be above 50 this afternoon.  As I look out the window, the birds are chirping.

Last year, it was already freezing for over a month.
Can't say I'm a bit sad that we have yet to see snow.

Of course, now that I've posted this, we're surely in for some.  :-)
